Why are some insurance companies deciding not to cover serology for H. pylori testing?

The American College of Gastroenterology calls the UBT method "the most reliable nonendoscopic test…" to confirm H. pylori eradication.1

Because of its lower specificity, serologic testing leads to more treatment of patients without active infection, more antibiotic resistance, and wasting of resources.2

Unnecessary eradication therapy in incorrectly diagnosed patients accounts for nearly 40% of the overall cost of serologic testing.2
